Terms and Conditions of Services Provided by C&K Interpreting

The Agency, shall provide the services of an appropriately qualified Sign Language Interpreter for the assignment as confirmed. The agency reserve the right to replace the interpreter with another equally qualified interpreter if necessary at short notice. It is at the discretion of the agency as to the number of interpreters required for the assignment and this will be previously confirmed with the client.

The Interpreter, shall use skill and care in accordance with the provisions and spirit of the Code of Professional Conduct of the Association of Sign Language Interpreters (ASLI) and the National Registers of Communication Professionals working with Deaf and Deafblind People (NRCPD). They shall use their best endeavors to interpret to the best of their ability, knowledge and belief.

The Client shall be wholly liable for the remuneration of the services provided by C&K Interpreting as confirmed prior to the assignment.

Payment of all fees and allowances shall be paid in full no later than 14 days following the date of the invoice.

The Interpreter may be invited, but not compelled, to continue the assignment beyond contracted hours at an additional charge. There may be a supplement for working unsociable hours (between 6pm and 8am or at weekends / bank holidays).

Standard Class rail fare or car journeys at 45p per mile will be charged. Other travel expenses such as car parking, taxi or bus fares will be charged, if necessary, at cost.

Travel time to and from an assignment will only incur a charge if it is in excess of 3 hours, and will be agreed prior to the assignment.

Cancellations. In the event of a cancellation, the client is liable for the following charges:

  • 7 days notice or less - Full fee
  • 8 to 14 days notice - Half fee
  • 15 days notice or more – Standard admin fee.

Late Payments. There will be a surcharge for late payment: 5% will be added every 14 days to all overdue sums from the first date on which they become due until they are paid in full.

Working Conditions. If it has been agreed that the services of more than one interpreter are required due to length and / or complexity, the agency reserves the right to withdraw the services of the interpreter with full payment or to renegotiate fees, if co-workers (not booked by the agency) are not booked or do not attend.

If the contracted Interpreter has agreed to work solo she shall be given adequate opportunity for breaks, ideally 10 minutes every 45 minutes. Under these circumstances no demands will be made on the skills of the Interpreter during rest periods or breaks.

If, due to unforeseen circumstances, the interpreter is unable to attend or to continue this assignment, the agency will notify the Client at the earliest opportunity. The agency will assist the client in finding a replacement interpreter who shall be engaged on the same or similar terms.

In the event that Sign Language Interpretation is not required on the day of the assignment, the agency reserves the right to withdraw the services of the interpreter after a suitable waiting period. The full and agreed fee will still be payable.

The Client shall provide the agency with relevant information and preparatory materials in good time; preferably two weeks in advance of an assignment.

Preparatory materials shall include such items as

  • names of participants
  • address, directions to and contact number of the assignment venue
  • contact details for presenter or event organiser
  • contact details for the person to be invoiced
  • contact details for co-worker(s) if applicable
  • programmes, agendas, minutes, reports,
  • briefing papers, speakers notes, motions;
  • maps, photographs, diagrams and other visual materials
  • slides or other materials which shall be read out or referred to
  • lyrics, scripts, copies of any videos or scripts of films to be shown or any other performance materials shall be supplied to the Interpreter by the Client not less than 24 hours in advance.

PLEASE NOTE: C&K interpreting will assume that these terms and conditions are accepted unless notified.
